Extra-special bonus points to anyone who recognizes the lyrics!  [Except for Carlos-the-Jackal.  I know he knows I know he knows.]  That song was, ironically, on my soundtrack while I took a train from the East Coast to Oregon before flying to the Land of Loud Birds to live.

I am moving away from Mississippi [which never really got its own little slogan name] and returning to my rightful home.  I will no longer be writing in exile!  To celebrate, there will be drinks!  And reunions!  Reunions with drinks!

Because I love nothing so much as not losing my cocktail recipes updating my blog, here are some potential fall-themed drinks for reunions!

I am now located in Mississippi, the funnest state to spell (from now on tFStS!), where at random my neighbors bring offerings of food.  I still adore Sonic.  I plan to learn to make gumbo.  I am reading Downtown Owl, by Chuck Klosterman (who brought us Sex, Drugs, and Coco Puffs).  Downtown Owl has that sleepy, transcendent small-town aura down.

I am poking around the Internet reading about all manner of things, likely because while I find these sleepy, transcendent small-town auras to be endearing and beautiful, I am not meant to live in one.

I found this hookah, which immediately reminded me of absinthe!  Then I went off on a tangent of absinthe peekings (while debating the wisdom of getting licorice tobacco and adding a shot of absinthe to the base) and  found some interesting and pretty things.  Like the absinthe fountain, for when you want a little tap to drip water over your sugar cubes.  And some absinthe spoons so pretty I love them (even though they’re gold!).  Now tempted to drink absinthe with sugar and water (instead of straight, which is how I actually like it).

I am now off to watch Naruto (because I have found that I greatly enjoy the RIDICULOUS NINJAS!) and have a pre-packaged mojito (that is really not comparable to the real thing but still tasty).  I have spent the night wondering what breakfast foods/tobacco flavors would go best with ridiculous ninja, and have decided that either pancakes/waffles and many tasty toppings or salmon soufflé and mimosas (with pink champagne, ladies and gentlemen) for the sheer absurdity will do.  The tobacco flavor I associate most strongly with this escapade is blueberry – extra interesting because I don’t actually eat blueberries.

Yes.  Really.  I have an affection for the ridiculous ninjas.

EDIT:  Adding also – absinthe soap!!! (With or without sugar!!!)

I cannot have a zombie movie marathon with fun treats this Halloween, because I have about zero local friends here in the land of loud birds. However, I will post these things up here, because they are fun. Hopefully next Halloween I can have a party (and all this stuff will be waiting!). And my Ravyn says I can visit him next Halloween for zombie movies and cutsey spooky treats! This is excitements!

Good morning!  There are ten minutes left of it.

Look!  A picture!  I took this one with the new camera.  While standing on two separate plant boxes and almost broke my neck approximately 38.6 times.  But I thought that we were long overdue some pictures.  [Lucien pictures are coming Molli, I just need to get a post with him and his pineapple friends arranged!]

I spent the morning reading through Tina’s blog.

Last night,when I almost updated and then didn’t, I was contemplating putting out an open account of what was going on with me, and shrank back.  For several reasons, one of which is that I have tried to keep from whining on this blog.  I’ve posted poetry and links to meaningful things that are not always cheerful, but I have tried to keep the overall theme here playful.  And the second is that as much as I think I’m reaching a place where I have to express where I am, I am reluctant to do that.  So…I’m debating putting things here, or putting things on another blog, or not talking about it at all for the Internet to view, or whatever it is I will do.

Anyway – Tina’s blog is an amazingly open and primal kind of view of depression and anorexia.  It is not just ranting, but is full of little bits of helpful information on how one person lives with depression and anorexia, some of which are probably helpful to see.  Most importantly, at least to me, its a kind of affirmation that I am not the only person who has been or still goes through these things.  Sometimes, that kind of affirmation is much appreciated.  As it was at eight this morning, when the thought I would have to make a grocery list was entirely overwhelming.  [It’s 12:05 now, and I’m still working on it.  But, partly that is due to the fact that I am searching for recipes, which I will of course share.]

One such recipe, which looks absolutely amazing is this recipe for Panang Curry Beef!  It comes complete with family story.  There is also a vegetarian take on that recipe, that also talks story, this time a dinner party one.  Also on the list for this week is this impossibly easy baked macaroni and cheese.   I shall add Anglo-Indian Curried Soup and do a pot roast.  Yes, half the reason this post exists is to hold my recipes for this week where I can find them.  I have yet to lose WordPress.

Enough ramblings for now.  I shall finish grocery lists and compress pictures of the garden for you.

Chocolate Pirate from Drink Mixer:
1 1/2 oz Bacardi 151 Rum
1 oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
1 oz Milk
2 scoops Chocolate Ice Cream
***Mix in blender until smooth and serve in a chilled wine goblet.***

Black-Raspberry Glaze from fooddownunder.com:

  1. Drain 1 pt frozen black raspberries and reserve juice.  (Measure juice and add water if needed to make 1 cup).
  2. Thoroughly combine 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cornstarch, and 1 tbsp Grand Marnier (orange juice can be substituted for Grand Marnier).
  3. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.  Boil 2 minutes.
  4. Combine 1/2 cup hot glaze with berries and spread over cheesecake (brownies will be substituted for cheesecake!) then slowly pour the remaining glaze over the fruit, forming a shiny glaze.

Raspberry-Glazed Brownies from Cooks.com:

  1.  Make brownies per directions on box.  (Duncan Hines Brownies Plus Milk Chocolate Chunks Mix is suggested.  I have never tried these.)
  2. Combine 1 square (1 oz) melted unsweetened chocolate, 2 tbsp softened butter, and 2 tbsp cornstarch.
  3. Stir in 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, 1 tbsp milk, and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  4. Add 2 tbsp raspberry jam.  Mix well.
  5. Spread on top of cooled brownies.
  • covers 1 batch (24) brownies

Raspberry Glaze from Perfect Puree of Napa Valley:

  1. In a saucepan, combine 8 oz red raspberry puree, 1 tsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice, and 2 tsp sugar.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until clear and slightly thickened.
  • makes 1 cup glaze
