chasing shadows again

I am once again enthralled by cute things.  This time in the form of Bento boxes.

Already my Ravyn and a Bunny have had to suffer through my sending them links upon links to bento related thingies!

Sometime after the holidays I will likely get a pair of bento boxes (one for me to take to work, one for mom to take to work) and thus I can eat more tasty diet foods.  More likely than not I will get the Laptop Lunches ones, which seem to be the superfunctional and not overly cute (amusing as it could be to pack my mother lunch in a Hello Kitty bento box), and they sell replacement inner parts for when I inevitably lose some or want to pack a couple up ahead of time with leftovers.  Of course, the internet is full of cute bento boxes – some of which cater to my cherry blossom obsession.  People, there are even chopsticks catering to my cherry blossom obsession!

So now when I win the lottery and have my very own commune, I will ALSO be making lunches for all my people to take away with them.  In addition to the soap making, jewelery making, and vodoun charms.  As long as I don’t get these things mixed up, everyone should be fine.  But I can’t pick up many more cute hobbies or I will not have time for my hookah.  And not having time for a hookah would be a tragedy.  Flavored tobacco for the win!

Should I get these boxes, I will update you with the pictures!  For now, I will leave you some links to fun/cute things.

Lunch In A Box! –  A fun blog with many links and pictures.  Load of tips and recipes.  Focuses on quick rather than time-consuming cute, so excellent for the kind of things to pack every day.  (Also – she has instructions for a relatively simple-looking apple bunny!)

Cooking Cute – Although this blog seems not to update frequently (like I can talk), it has a huge amount of resources and information on it.

Kitchen Cow – Full of pictures!  With BEEF STROGANOFF in a bento box!  (There is even a recipe for the stroganoff!)  However, all that really needs to be said for this site is this “zombie rising from the grave bento for the win!

{October 28, 2008}   ~untitled~

when dusk steals out over the city
creeping whisper-soft like the brush of unseen whiskers
painting the drowsy canals with darkness
I will come out with the lovers and the beggars and the cats
to stalk through the streets

murmurs and blushes
ancient eyes and the frayed hems of old coats
silken fur and endless mystery
will seep through my skin like ink

I will not watch what they are writing
but trace my way through the sinking buildings and swaying boats
with all the indifference of the moonlight on the water

in this twilight city
there will be hours to search out messages written and waiting
lurking in the half-heard conversations
the invitations into the unknown that are but a twitch of a tail
a shadow half-glimpsed
forever remembered

{October 31, 2007}   Halloween Fun!!!

I cannot have a zombie movie marathon with fun treats this Halloween, because I have about zero local friends here in the land of loud birds. However, I will post these things up here, because they are fun. Hopefully next Halloween I can have a party (and all this stuff will be waiting!). And my Ravyn says I can visit him next Halloween for zombie movies and cutsey spooky treats! This is excitements!

Halloween Cakes on AllRecipes: Spider cupcakes, Mummy cupcakes, Graveyard cakes, + more!!!

Bat sandwiches-Which should of course be made with sweet curried tuna and apple sandwiches.

Halloween Drinks!!!

Cherry-Berry Spider-not that I see the spider, but this looks like a fun, non-alcoholic treat.

Green Grog-How can you say no to any drink that involves both limeade AND rum?

Boo Beverage-It’s all about the floating ghosts on top!

Apple Cidertini-Need I clarify?

Brain Hemmorage-Anything with this in its description honestly kinda scares me: “The schnapps curdles the Irish cream and the result looks like a brain floating in your shot glass. The grenadine adds the hemorrhage affect.”

Transylvania Punch-I might have to make this even with no one else here to love it.

Hot Buttered Cranberry Cider-Hot. Cranberry. Cider.

{October 25, 2007}   Poetry TAG: I get line #5

Poetry Tag Poem

The sound shook his bones
like a cymbal
crashing fast against his soul,
a soul detached from mind and body,
shivering in the dark

I found this poem fragment at K. M. Ryan’s.

Please play with us! Pick up the poem and take us on a walk through dreams, or follow our dreamwalk forward and back!

How this works:

It’s a game of poetry tag. Be the first to post TAG in the comments. Then take these lines and add one, in a post on your own blog, along with these instructions. Whoever adds the nineteenth line then takes the poem to Poets Who Blog at http://poetswhoblog.blogspot.com/ and puts the whole poem in the comment section there. Each person who plays need to also mention what site you were at when you found the poem so that other bloggers can follow the breadcrumbs back to this poem. You can play more than once but not twice in a row.

{October 25, 2007}   No More Hugs!!! :(

The hugs counter is dead!!! This is injustice!!!

Failing it’s resurrection, is anyone around who can (and is willing to) make a similar thing to share? I miss my hugs, and I would imagine others do too.

Any kind of sharable hug things would be welcomed, icons or little boxes with words and texts for signatures so that cute hugs can be left, whatever hugs things are sharable. I am no good at creating these things. But I will collect them for the sharings!

when I
come back from the edge
of the world I
will bring for you
maps
seeds to grow
stars; there will be
wonders where I am going –
where you cannot
follow
guard me
against serpents
rising up like dragons
from the sea.

they will not be able
to frighten
anymore; not me –
watching them unfurl
like exotic poisoned flowers
on storm-swept decks
I will remember
not fear; but
the immortality of souls.

swallowed whole
or not
their tongues
searing flame
will trail over my skin
no more than a caress –
my love
your love
our love
will save me.

the words you
gave me
whispered in the dark
have become
armor.

Although Poetry Thursday is ended. 😦 Their site will remain up as an archive until January 2008. If you’ve been meaning to go poking through there but haven’t found the time (like me! I am a bum!), do make it soon.

Anyway, that poem is for Carlos-the-Jackal. (Carlos-the-Jackal is my favorite of your nicknames that I remember. If you want another one here, you may have it.) If he does not know why, I will be forced to bat at him when I visit this winter. (As both a hint and a message – thank you again for the book.) I felt like playing with line breaks and punctuation. Carlos-the-Jackal always did like it when I tried new things. I’ll try in Word too, where I can play more with the spacing of lines horizontally. WordPress gremlins eat my spaces! (If I manage, I will bring it when I come home. Or perhaps entrust it to the mail.)

Yes, really! My ultra comfy jeans now have a mermaid on them! Check it out!

Mermaid Jeans

This (rather well endowed) mermaid is made of mostly glass beads, notable exceptions include the coppery tips of her tail (copper/brass bells), a strand of hair that is made up entirely of carnelian, and her head (wooden bead). The star she’s leaping to catch is made of turquoise.  I’ll try to get a shot of her on me (the pattern looks a bit more normal that way).

More of these may be in the making (to be sold, no less!) because they are playful, fun, and unique. The jewelry thing hasn’t taken off (to be fair, I barely promote it and need to get my lazy self out to make money) and with so much other jewelry at the markets, I’m looking for a unique thing to do. Gonna see how people respond to the mermaid, and maybe put up some of these guys on the site/on Ebay and see what happens. But first, more jeans (or patches) to sew on are required.

Still, I am excited because this is fun! I like fun!
